What's Offered:
5th grade concerts
- Each year the Utah Symphony performs 10 concerts for fifth grade students and their teachers in Abravanel Hall. These concerts support the teaching of the fifth grade music curriculum and also draw upon cross-curricular ties to other fifth grade content areas. The opportunity to hear a professional orchestra playing the great music of our orchestral repertoire in the acoustical brilliance of Abravanel Hall creates memories for a lifetime. We invite homeschool students 6 years and above
- The Utah Symphony programs a full orchestra and chamber orchestra (45 to 50 musicians) education program each year to allow us to travel great distances and play in schools with smaller auditoriums. Occasionally, there are available seats for these performances and we love to extend the opportunity to homeschool students. Registration for these concerts occurs in the fall and will be available here.
Open Rehearsals
- Open rehearsals provide an opportunity for students to observe the rehearsal process and learn more about programmed music and Abravanel Hall. Open Rehearsals are scheduled throughout the year to provide a variety of times, repertoire and soloists for those in attendance. This event is suggested for secondary students, but interested younger may be considered.
Tours of Abravanel Hall
- One-hour tours can be provided for groups of ten or more.
Youth Guild
- The Utah Symphony Youth Guild is dedicated to giving students a greater involvement with the arts and supporting the Utah Symphony through volunteer service and education activities. Membership is open to families with children ages 8 to 18. While the Youth Guild encourages everyone to reap the many benefits of learning to play an instrument, membership is open to musicians and non-musicians alike.
Family Concerts
- Introduce your family to great orchestral music! These Tuesday evening concerts begin at 7:00 PM and are approximately 2 hours in length. Recommended for youth 12 and older.
Lollipops Concerts
- Delightful one-hour concerts on Saturdays mornings. Come early for pre-concert lobby activities. Recommended for families with children between 5 and 12 years old.
Internships/Job Shadowing
- Interested high school students can explore several facets of arts organization operations, administration, education, development, and marketing, or they can choose to focus on a single area. We offer opera-based production opportunities in the costume shop, the scenic design studio, and stage management. Students are contracted for 45 hours of work with an individual mentor in the organization. Internships are unpaid, but can often be used for academic credit with schools.
- We also offer half or full day job shadowing opportunities for high school.
